Activist Support Circle

Hosted by Stephanie Vigil

Tomorrow at 7 PM – 8:30 PM Pikes Peak Library District - East Library 5550 N Union Blvd, Colorado Springs

Hey there, politically engaged friends! How you feeling? A bit worn out? Feeling drained? All the mending that needs to be done in this world can get overwhelming. It's no wonder most people never really jump in to do the work at all. And it's definitely not surprising how often people burn out or find themselves being re-traumatized.

There's a lot to do, a lot of struggle and pain, and sometimes we forget to tend to our own needs and find the joy in life. Let's get together and talk about what we can do for ourselves and each other to stay healthy and centered.

This is a compassionate and judgment-free space, warm beverages and coloring/art supplies will be provided, and conversation will be guided, but open-ended. Hope to see you there!

We'll be in room F1, which is just past the movies and music.

Tax the Rich Bus Tour Colorado Springs

Hosted by Tax March and ProgressNow Colorado

Thursday at 12 PM – 1 PM To Be Announced ***Event details and locations are not final and subject to change*** Join the TAX THE RICH Bus Tour!

Recent polling shows that taxing the rich is overwhelmingly supported by Americans, with 75% of all likely 2020 voters backing it. This strong support extends across party lines, with 90 percent of Democrats, 70 percent of Independents and 60 percent of Republicans in favor of higher taxes for the rich. In fact, when asked what they think the biggest problem with our tax code is, a majority say it’s that the rich and corporations DON’T pay their fair share. The Tax the Rich Bus Tour puts that message front and center in the presidential primary debate and empowers local electeds, activists, and national organizations to hold Republicans accountable for the GOP Tax Scam and share why they believe the rich and corporations must pay their fair share.

We'll be joined with: - Daneya Esgar, State House Representative - Laura Packard, Co-Chair, Health Care Voter - Maura Quint, Executive Director, Tax March RSVP here: https://taxmarch.org/events/#event1487

Jul 18 to Aug 18 Baby-Carrier Donation Drive: Carry our Love to Migrant Families

Hosted by Randi McCallian for Colorado SD10

DO YOU HAVE A BABY-CARRIER TO DONATE!? Let's show migrant families and children some love ♥ Many of us feel helpless and don't know how to show migrant families that we care, so l thought we could send our love through wraps, slings, and soft-structured carriers that will let babies cuddle with a loved one, heart to heart. "Baby-wearing" is a great way to keep children close and safe, especially during stressful times. We will accept wraps, slings, or soft-structured carriers. Please no large hard-structure carriers (think "hiking backpack") because they take up so much space. Need a carrier to donate!? Many of the local 'gently used kid clothing stores' often have multiple, inexpensive, carriers they may discount or donate! I will be collecting carriers over the next month and plan to donate them to at least one local Colorado organization (Los Pobres, a migrant resource center in Avondale), potentially more (we are still looking for the best places to send them - open to suggestions!). Share widely! Let's get at least 10 carriers!!  ~For the children ♥

(Note: to get the carriers to me, we can meet up, or you can bring them to an event we are both attending. Send me a message if you need to coordinate a pick-up/drop-off).

Nuts and Bolts: Building Power through Effective Organization

Hosted by Chinook Center

Sunday at 2 PM – 4:30 PM UCCS Downtown, 102 S Tejon St Ste. 105-A

Whether a large non-profit or a small dedicated group of activists, social change groups are often driven by passion for a cause rather than a passion for organizational form. This workshop will focus on how to turn that passion into an effective and long lasting organization. Learn how to create a set of organizational norms, by-laws and operating procedures and set goals to build a successful campaign for change. Work on creating individual empowerment and long term commitment among people within your group and how to avoid burnout by creating a supportive, transparent and democratic organization. Learn best practices for raising money and keeping track of that money. This workshop will be facilitated by board members Alex Archuleta, Jon Christiansen and Jay Flesher, all three of whom have a great deal of experience in forming organizations, both formal and informal.
