What is Central Committee?

 

The El Paso County Central Committee is the governing body of the El Paso County Democratic Party while the County Assembly/Convention is not in session. The officers of the Central Committee are the County Party Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.

Am I on the Central Committee?

 

Central Committee Membership includes:

  • The County Party officers: Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. 

  • The Chairs of district committees in El Paso County. Districts include State House Districts 14-21, State Senate Districts 9-12, County Commissioner Districts 1-5. District information.

  • Precinct Organizers of all precincts in the county. Note that Adoptive Precinct Organizers are NOT members of the Central Committee. An Adoptive Precinct Organizer is someone who does not reside in the precinct but is acting as Precinct Organizer until a resident of the precinct is found for the position.

  • Democratic elected officials who reside in El Paso County.

Bylaws Update
Not having been updated for four years, the El Paso County Democratic Party Bylaws have undergone a major revision in 2021 by the Bylaws and Rules Committee. In the upcoming Central Committee Meeting, we will vote on whether or not to accept these changes. The changes include reorganizing the document for readability and clarity. Due to the major structural changes to that end, revisions in the document are not marked. Please see the presentation below for highlights of the changes made. How To Propose An Amendment to the Proposed Bylaws
The deadline to propose an amendment, Aug. 13, 2021 has passed. 
One amendment to the bylaws has been proposed. To see the amendment, view the sample ballot in the Voting section below.


Voting
All voting will take place online with an opportunity to complete your vote in-person at the meeting.  Those who cannot attend the live meeting, either in-person or virtually, will still have the opportunity to vote through an extended voting period. No proxies or alternates will be allowed. 
The voting period is  Thursday, Aug. 19 @ 8:00 AM - Sunday, Aug. 22 @ noon. Ballots and voting instructions will be sent to central committee members by email.
